Welcome to Alighieri's Auction House. By participating in our auctions, you agree to adhere to the following Conditions of Sale and Terms of Guarantee.

Conditions of Sale

1. As Is All items are auctioned in their existing condition and are often of considerable age. Except for the limited warranty contained in our Terms of Guarantee, all property is sold "AS IS." Alighieri's and the Consignor disclaim all warranties, express or implied, about the property's condition, authenticity, or any copyright claims. No statement, whether oral or written, shall be deemed such a warranty or representation.

2. Inspection Potential bidders are encouraged to inspect items before bidding. Information about an item’s condition, size, and restorative history is available upon request. Please contact Alighieri's to arrange an inspection or for additional details.

3. Buyer’s Premium A buyer's premium will be added to the hammer price and is payable by the purchaser as part of the total purchase price.

4. Withdrawal Alighieri's reserves the right to withdraw any property before and during the sale without liability.

5. Bidding All bids are subject to our Conditions of Sale. You represent and warrant that your bids are genuine and not the result of any collusive or other anti-competitive agreements.

6. Cancelling Bids A bid may be cancelled by contacting Alighieri's customer service at least 24 hours before the auction.

7. Governing Law and Jurisdiction These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. By bidding, all participants consent to the jurisdiction of the state and federal courts in Pennsylvania.

8. Packing and Shipping The handling and packing of purchased lots are at the purchaser’s entire risk and expense. Alighieri's is not liable for any damage or loss once an item has been released for shipment.

9. Limitation of Liability In no event will Alighieri's total liability to a purchaser exceed the purchase price actually paid.

10. If a buyer fails or refuses to remit payment within the required time frame, Alighieri's reserves the right to initiate legal proceedings to recover the full amount owed. The buyer will be responsible for all associated legal costs, including but not limited to attorney's fees, court fees, and collection costs incurred by Alighieri's in enforcing its rights.

​11. Venue / Jurisdiction. The parties agree that any action or proceeding arising out of or relating to any auction, bid, purchase, sale, or these Terms shall be instituted exclusively in the state courts located in Coweta County, Georgia, or the United States District Court with jurisdiction over Coweta County, Georgia, and each party irrevocably submits to the personal jurisdiction and venue of such courts.
Governing Law. These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Georgia, without regard to its conflict of laws principles.

Terms of Guarantee

Authorship Guarantee Alighieri's guarantees the authorship of artworks as described in the catalogue headings (excluding any amendments or notices posted on our website) for a period of two years after the sale. If the authenticity of an artwork is successfully disputed within this period, upon satisfactory return of the item in the same condition as sold, we will refund the hammer price and buyer's premium paid.

Claims under the Guarantee To make a claim under this guarantee, the purchaser must notify Alighieri's in writing within one month of discovering any discrepancy in the item’s guaranteed authorship, specifying the lot number, date of auction, and the nature of the discrepancy.

Additional Auction Details

Estimates and Catalogues Our auction catalogues provide estimates of what each item might sell for and are available online from the start of each auction.

Specialist Advice Potential bidders seeking detailed condition reports or further information about lots are welcome to contact our client services team.

After the Auction Successful bidders will receive invoices via email shortly after the auction. Full payment is due within seven days of the auction.

Sales and Use Tax Applicable Pennsylvania sales tax will be charged on all items picked up or delivered within Pennsylvania.

Shipping Services While Alighieri's provides a list of recommended shippers, clients are free to use any professional shipping service.

Collecting Your Property Purchased items must be collected or shipping arrangements confirmed within 60 days of the auction.
