Item Description

Very rare promo cassette dub set of Herbie Hancock's The Complete Blue Note Sixties Sessions which was sold as a set of CDs, 6-CD box set originally released by Blue Note Records (catalog #7243 4 95569 2 8
as duplicated here by Capitol Mastering in 1998. This is not the commercial 6-CD box set (Blue Note/EMI 7243 4 95569 2 8). These are high-quality cassette dubs made directly from the 1998 CD masters, produced in very limited quantities for radio stations, jazz DJs, reviewers, and label staff. To my knowledge and after extensive searching, no other complete 6-tape promotional set has ever been publicly listed or documented online—making this a true collector’s artifact from the late-CD era at Blue Note/EMI.
Excellent overall. The cassettes appear clean with no visible mold or damage. Labels are crisp and fully legible. Cases show only minor shelf wear consistent with age. Tapes have not been heavily played (We have not tested playback, but they look extremely well-preserved). This set captures a fascinating piece of Blue Note history: the promotional duplication process at Capitol Mastering during the 1998 reissue campaign. Serious Hancock completists, Blue Note archivists, and collectors of rare promotional tapes will appreciate its obscurity.
