Item Description

Four English Porcelain Painted Plates, 19th and Early 20th Century. Comprising a W. T. Copeland topographical plate, 1851-85, painted with identified views of "Kirkstall Abbey" and "Newport Castle," printed green mark above "COPELAND;" a Minton plate, signed "J.E. Dean" for James Edwin Dean (1863-1935) and depicting a rural landscape view, 1891-1912, printed factory mark; and a pair of Chelsea 'Chelsea Birds' style plates, each with painted anchor mark in overglaze-blue enamel.

Copeland plate: H: 9.625 in., W: 10.25 in., D:1.25 in.

James Edwin Dean was an artist at the Minton China Works, employed there between 1882 and 1926 and eventually becoming the head artist.
