Robert O. Hodgell (American, 1922-2000):Viva Vivaldi. Linocut print on paper, signed and titled below, framed. Robert Overman Hodgell (1922�2000), son of a Methodist pastor in Makato, Kansas, was a prominent printmaker and educator. He studied under Alfred Sessler at the University of Wisconsin�Madison and apprenticed with American Regionalist painter John Steuart Curry on the Kansas State Capitol murals. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Hodgell taught at institutions including Des Moines Art Center, University of Illinois, Florida Presbyterian (Eckerd) College, Ringling School of Art, and University of South Florida. Known for his linoleum and woodcut prints, Hodgell's work is held in collections like the Library of Congress and Ringling Museum of Art.
