The different colored Noritake markings on your Christmas Ball china (green, gold, and "Nippon") indicate different production periods. Green markings are generally associated with the earliest pieces, produced between 1906 and 1940. Gold markings, often with "Occupied Japan" from 1947-1953, signify production after World War II. "Nippon" markings, used before 1921, indicate the pieces were made to comply with the U.S. McKinley Tariff Act, which required the country of origin to be marked on imported goods.
The longest running pattern ever made by Noritake, set includes:
7 dinner plates 4 green marking & 3 Nippon marking 1 chip; 12 salad plates green markings 1 chip; 11 bread plates 4 nippon 7 green 1 chip; 2 berry bowls gold marking ; 9 saucers no marking. Noritake, like other manufacturers, sometimes varied their marking practices across different pieces within a set, especially with saucers. 9 cups 6 green & 3 nippon; serving pcs. are in separate lot. This is a discontinued patternThere may be additional chips. Did my best.
