Segundo Huertas Aguiar (1923–2010) was born in San Juan, Argentina, and is especially known for his ability to capture the beauty of the American landscape and seascape. Raised on a farm, he spent much of his childhood outdoors, painting scenes directly from nature. The landscapes of his native Argentina were his first subjects, laying the foundation for a lifelong bond with the land.
In 1965, Huertas Aguiar moved to the United States and settled in the Chicago area. He lived there for twenty-five years and later became a naturalized citizen. During this period, he traveled extensively, exploring nearly every region of the country. These experiences inspired a rich and diverse body of work that reflects the varied landscapes he encountered.
Huertas Aguiar’s realistic paintings capture the broad spectrum of American geography—from the serene beauty of coastal shores to the vast openness of desert plains—with remarkable sensitivity to light, space, and atmosphere. Each painting reveals his unique ability to convey the essence of light. His work stands as both a tribute to the natural world and a testament to his enduring dedication to the art of painting.
