This gorgeous antique book is a volume from the monumental series "Nouvelle Géographie Universelle: La Terre et les Hommes" (New Universal Geography: The Earth and Men), written by the renowned French geographer and anarchist Élisée Reclus.
Handsomely bound in original red cloth with elaborate gilt decoration featuring a compass rose and globe motif to boards and spine. A striking example of 19th-century French publisher’s binding.
This volume covers Western Asia (Near East) and includes numerous in-text engravings, detailed maps, and fold-out color maps. Title page notes: 5 color maps, 155 maps within text, and 85 engraved views and types.
Measures 11" x 8.25".
Good condition with some wear, large fold-out map at the end is damaged, see last image.
