Political satire print by Paul Szep, the Pulitzer Prize–winning editorial cartoonist best known for his work with The Boston Globe.
The cartoon references the Watergate scandal, depicting two caricatured figures struggling in the water beside a sinking vessel labeled “SS Watergate.” Beneath the image appears the caption:
“Bat: ‘I’ve decided not to tell you about the alleged shipwreck.’”
Executed in strong black-and-white line and tonal shading typical of editorial cartoon art, the work captures Szep’s sharp political humor and commentary during one of the most significant scandals in modern American history.
The print is signed in pencil lower right and the caption is handwritten along the lower margin. Presented in a black frame with mat under glass. The reverse retains a label from Stanhope Framers (Massachusetts).
Measures 12" x 14", overall 18" x 23".
Condition: Good overall condition with light age toning visible on the reverse backing. Frame shows minor handling wear.
