Authentic early wooden duck decoy, hand-carved with a primitive, folk-art character and a richly aged surface. The body displays pronounced tool marks and a dry, weathered patina, suggesting long use and age. The head is simply carved with a slender bill and small drilled eye detail, mounted in traditional fashion. Illegible carved inscription.
The underside retains an old metal keel weight secured with screws, along with remnants of the original line tie—clear indicators of working decoy use. Notably, the body shows a hollowed or plug-style construction at the rear, a feature seen in some older, utilitarian decoys.
Measures 15.5".
Condition: Heavy surface wear, cracking, and age-related splitting to wood, particularly around the head and body seams. Losses and erosion consistent with prolonged use. Original weight and line present. Structurally intact and stable with significant rustic patina.
