Primitive hand-carved wooden crocodile shape figure.
Lele (Leele), between the Kasai and Loange rivers, Ilebo territory, a crocodile head with four-legged body and a smooth flat back (for rubbing the stopper); incised linear, triangular and waffle-shaped motifs.
Carved from a single piece of dark wood with simple incised details and a long tapering tail.
The figure shows old surface wear, patina, and small losses consistent with age and use.
Measures approx. 17" long.
