Painter, lithographer and teacher; born in London; studied at Birmingham School of Art, 1941-43; served in the RAF during WWII and afterwards studied at the Royal College of Art, 1947-50, followed by a year's continuation scholarship; his first solo exhibitions were held at Zwemmer Gallery, London, 1965 and 67; also exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy, with the London Group, Royal Society of British Artists, Artists' International Association, New English Art Club and at the Redfern Gallery; he taught at Sidcup and Hammersmith art colleges and taught printmaking at the RCA from 1955, becoming head of department in 1970 and was appointed to the Chair of Printmaking in 1984, from which he retired in 1990. His work is held in many collections including: V&A Museum, Tate Gallery, the Government Art Collection as well as the Briish Museum. The Art First gallery held a memorial exhibition in 1997.
