Here is a very interesting woven picture by Stevengraphs. The woven picture is a special process that was created and registered many years ago.
The picture itself measures approximately 6“ x 2“. The title of this picture is ‘Full Cry’. On the matting of this picture, there is a statement “woven in silk by Thomas Stevens, inventor and manufacturer, Coventry and London, (registered)”.
Wooden frame this picture measures 12“ x 9“. Please note there is some boxing on the mat. However, is authentic from the time of this creation..
Wikipedia notes that Stevengraph are pictures woven from silk originally created by Thomas Stevens in the 19th century. They were popular collectible items again during the revival of interest in Victoria in the 1960s and 1970s.
Thomas Stevens was a local Weaver and many of his designs were produced to make bookmarks reading cards And pictures to be fun. Stevengraphs are held in collections at the Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum, as well as other places around the world.
