Original manuscript document recommending Elisha Walker, of the Connecticut Regiment, discharge from the Army "by reason of his advanced age and infirmity of Constitution". signed
by Lt. Col. Isaac Sherman, 19th Sept. 1780. This release is then agreed to & signed by General Samuel Parsons, 20 Sept. 1780. Parsons (1737-89) was an important loyal & outspoken patriot. He was among the first to favor independence and one of the earliest to suggest a colonial congress. He enlisted in the militia 1775 earning the rank of Brig. General. Washington depended upon him for the defense of Connecticut (he was Commander of the Conn. Div.). Parsons was also in charge of an important part of the secret service. Promoted to Major General one month after signing this document
(October 1780). AS A COMPANION: Original currency issued by the Continental Congress to pay the expense of the American Revolution. Issued Sept. 26, 1778 and signed by Robert Cather and James
