This is a very rare swing leg table attributed to Nehemiah Adams. There are only a dozen examples known, including a large breakfront bookcase in the Metropolitan Museum. He was a very prominent cabinetmaker from Salem, Massachusetts. A similar table was owned by Israel Sach. The table is made of mahogany. The skirt consists of an oval friese inlaid with satinwood and flaming birch. There is also satinwood and tiger maple inlays above the four pencil reeded legs. Overall condition is very good. There is a veneer patch above the oval friese and a small veneer chip near the middle hinge on the top as shown in photo. Dimensions are: 28 1/2" tall x 36 1/2" wide x 18" deep. Dimensions with the top open are: 36" wide. Condition: Very good and is sturdy.
