"Seascape" By George Grosz, Signed 1939, Original Drawing

This framed original crayon / wax pencil drawing by German-American Georg Grosz (18903-1969) exhibits this important artist's mastery of drawing. In black with hints of gray and brown undertones, the subject is a Cape Cod beach sand dune with wind-swept grasses. The surfaces are defined by a variety of mark-making, built-up textures and finely-honed strokes. George Grosz is known for his paintings and prints featuring bitter characterizations of Berlin of the 1920s. After immigrating to the U.S., Grosz spent his final years in Berlin. Grosz left an immense legacy, and remains highly-influential to contemporary artists. His work is in the collections of major art museums world-wide.
