Set of 4 Greta Magnusson-Grossman dining chairs in walnut. C. 1952. with naugahyde cushions. Designed by Greta Magnusson, whose prolific career as a Swedish architect and furniture designer spanned 40 years, linking Swedish design with the American West Coast Mid Century designers. An icon of Mid-Century Modern and one of the rarely recognized female figures of the Mid-Century Modern Design movement, Greta Magnusson's designs are in the permanent collection of Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art. Magnusson's unmistakable furniture rarely becomes available, and when it does, it's highly sought-after. This set of four dining chairs seem impossibly light, yet are exceedingly sturdy, with backrests that seem to suggest they are ready to take flight. As beautiful as they are structurally sound, with minimally-invasive restoration. The splines have been re-glued and fastener buttons replaced, where missing. All-original Naugahyde covered seats. Manufactured by Glenn of California/Sweden, unsigned.
