Ellen Lanyon (1926 - 2014) was an American artist associated with the Chicago "Monster Roster," and the Chicago Imagists. This is an early originial "City Scape" of Lanyon's, from the late 1940's/early 50s, depicting an industrial part of a town as seen from above, in tempera paint on a prepared gesso ground. Ellen Lanyon had a long and illustrious career, with over seventy-five solo gallery exhibitions and eleven museum exhibitions, including three major traveling retrospectives. Her work is in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Brooklyn Museum; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the National Museum of American Art; among others; and taught at several noteable art institutions.
Notes: Good condition, with some surface abrasions and nicks that do not detract from the piece
