Item Description

An etching and drypoint on paper depicting the iconic reclining nude composition known as Venus, originally created by James Abbott McNeill Whistler in 1859. The image portrays a dark-haired woman identified as Emily, shown resting on her side in bed — a quietly intimate study rendered with delicate linework and expressive tonal contrast.

This composition is documented as one of three closely related figure studies Whistler produced in 1859 portraying his mistress, and examples of Venus reside in major museum collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Gallery of Art, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
