Antique Hand Carved Baule Ivory Coast Comb

An amazing Old and rare wood comb with a standing figure with flanking busts decorated with geometric carvings. The Akan speaking women of Ghana include the Anyu, Baule, and Fante. All these women use wooden hair combs both for combing hair and for decoration and adornment. Combs are obtained as gifts from admirers or presented at marriage.Large bridal combs were prestigious and used to adorn the home. Depending on a woman's wealth or beauty she might own three or four.
