Heidi Samia is the creative mind behind the home décor and lifestyle blog, Eleanor Rose Home. Heidi’s love of home and home décor was ignited after working from home during the COVID pandemic.  She rediscovered her love of home and family togetherness, and decided it was time to share that passion with others.

Through Eleanor Rose Home, Heidi shares simple and easy ways for her audience to create their own version of a cozy home with home décor ideas, styling tips, affordable DIYs, and seasonal inspiration.  Heidi enjoys mixing old and new pieces into her décor to create a home that is warm, inviting, and cozy.

In this week’s edition of Collected Perspectives, Heidi shared some advice to go bold with wallpaper decor that won’t  overwhelm, along with her favorites from our marketplace. Scroll down to check it out!

Being bold with your choice of wallpaper is sometimes easier said than done, but you absolutely nailed it in your bedroom design. Do you have any advice for people who are hesitant when it comes to wallpaper?

Don’t be afraid, go for it!

Wallpaper is a great way to add visual interest and texture in any room. Instead of wallpapering each wall in the room, consider an accent wall especially when choosing to install a bold wallpaper.

Peel and stick wallpaper is a great option for those that may be afraid of the commitment of traditional wallpaper. There are some beautiful patterns available in peel & stick wallpaper, it’s relatively inexpensive (compared to traditional wallpaper), and can be installed or removed by anyone.

Always remember it’s your home that you’re decorating. If you love a bold wallpaper or maybe a pattern that’s “not in style”, that’s ok! Your home should reflect your style and what you love.

Your space is filled with elements of nature, such as wood furniture and straw baskets. What are some tips for incorporating the outside inside your home?

Adding natural elements to your home can create a calm and peaceful atmosphere, as well as fresh air.

To incorporate the outside with the inside of your home, add natural décor with personally meaningful items to create the most cozy, inviting, and relaxing space. Take a collection of seashells or pinecones you might have and add them to a vintage bowl or basket and display that on a shelf or sofa table. Maybe you picked a handful of wildflowers on your afternoon walk, display those in a vase or ironstone pitcher on your kitchen counter.

My favorite part of adding natural elements to a home is that they are budget friendly. Natural décor can be found anywhere from your own backyard to the community park, the beach, or even from a memorable family vacation. Once you start looking for natural décor, the possibilities of what you can find and collect are endless. Mother nature should not only be enjoyed outdoors but indoors as well!

What got you interested in secondhand, vintage, and antique items?

I am a fairly new antique lover and shopper. I did not discover my love of antiques until a couple of years ago when I joined Instagram. I would see amazing pieces that some of the influencers I followed were shopping for and collecting. I knew I wanted to start searching for my own antique pieces and begin my own collections.

I am so glad I discovered my love of antiques!  I think our home is so much cozier now with unique, vintage pieces mixed into our décor.

What are one or two things that you always find yourself bidding on/looking for when shopping secondhand?

There are a few things I always have my eye out for when we go antiquing.  Ironstone, old English advertising pots, vintage books & cookbooks, amber bottles, and vintage Santa mugs.

And when invited to join AuctionNina’s Collected Perspectives guest curation series, I can’t wait to choose some items from their marketplace that I’ll definitely be bidding on.

What’s your absolute favorite item ever purchased at an estate sale or online auction?

This is a hard question, but I think my favorite item I’ve found to date is a wooden cut out of Santa.  It was something I wasn’t even looking for, but when I saw the Santa cut out from across the room at the antique mall I frequent often, I sprinted to grab him before anyone else could!  I loved his jolly face, the chippy paint, and knew he would be the perfect addition to our home and Christmas décor.
