1819 Book of Common Prayer, 1917 Scofield Bible & Ephemera found within
1) Leather bound Book of Common Prayer, published by Henry I. Megarey, New York, 1818, with date of July 10, 1819 on certification page. Original owner Rebecca McHinch personalized on front in gilt lettering. Covers are worn and dirty with extensive damage along spine. Front hinge broken and title pages and ffep are detached. Pages have heavy foxing. Another engraving is detached. 274 pages including index. Found within were 2 obituaries for Miss Rebecca McHinch. Obituary states that she had been born on Wall Street and had the honor of meeting Lafayette on his visit to America in 1822. She was a member of the Episcopal church and a prominent society lady. Also found a small cross stitch book mark of Elisabeth McFinch 1838- perhaps a sister.
2) 1917 Scofield Reference Bible, Oxford University Press. Bible is in poor condition with damage to cover, broken binding, age toned and marked pages. Found within the bible include an photo dated 1865 on back and signed with 3 cent proprietary stamp. A. Edouart studio, San Francisco. Also a ticket for a Masonic & eastern Star Benefit June 1945 with advertising on reverse for S. H. Hines Company
