About the Sale
This is a rare opportunity to view, enjoy, and purchase from a lifetime of creations by long time Boulder artist, Sibylla Mathews. She continued to study at the University of Colorado while raising 3 children and you’ll find early oils and portraits from this period. She was attracted to abstract watercolors in the 1970’s and began selling her art locally. By the time she graduated in 1978 she was quite active in the Boulder art scene including being president of the Boulder Artist’s Guild, working at Mustard Seed Gallery, and being a pioneer in the creation of the much-loved Boulder Open Studios program. Her work has been on exhibit in galleries both in the United States and internationally. Sibylla was constantly experimenting with new media and forms including printmaking, pottery, and collage. She eventually learned how to make and mold her own paper and you’ll find many works in this medium. This estate is offered on behalf of Sibylla’s grown son and daughter and they are thrilled and proud to share her diverse, inspiring, and exceptional work with you. In addition to her art, you’ll find many other works by local artists, and the artist’s estate of interesting, stylish, and vintage collectibles, décor, and housewares.
