Limoges cache pot/vase bearing the William Guerin underglaze factory mark 3 (circa 1900). The cache pot is signed by the well known and highly collected artist, Osborne, who was a contemporary artist of Pickard and opened his own studio in 1910. Osborne did not use a backstamp on many of his pieces content with just signing his name. On occasion he would use a gummed foil label that was easily removed after purchase. Although at some point it is noted that Osborne did employ other artists, he does not seem to have encouraged, or permitted, those artists to sign their work for him. As such, no Osborne Art Studio piece has been found to be signed by anyone other than Osborne. He is most noted for his emulations of many of Pickard's best patterns including Gasper's Poppy and Daisy and Hessler's Encrusted Linear.
Offered here is Osborne's rendition of Poppy and Daisy. This highly collected pattern/design mixes the intense hues of orange with the richness of heavy gold etched/acid gilding. The cache pot/vase stands 8.25" tall. It stands on four golden balled feet and has the familiar gold ringed handles. A trio of poppies grace the front sitting stop long thin gold outlined green stems. Their centers are a wonderful green ringed in black fringe with gold speckling. A pair of daisies sit at their feet. The back is adorned with a lone poppy whose head is gracefully bowed with more daisies decorating underneath. A wide swath of shiny gold gild with etched/acid design encircles the mouth area.
