I have 2 prints for sale - this auction is for this one only

I separated them only due to the fact that the metal frames are 2 different colors - This one is a copper-ish bronze - The other is more of a dark brown Bronze.

Dietrich Varez, a celebrated artist on Hawaii's Big Island, gained fame for his vividly colored, uniquely stylized paintings, block prints, and book illustrations, often inspired by ancient Hawaiian myths. Particularly enamored with the tales of the Volcano Goddess Pele, he meticulously carved complex block prints from linoleum obtained from Germany, creating precise lines reminiscent of fine-point pen drawings. Born in wartime Germany, Varez found solace in Hawaii after his mother married an American GI. Settling in Volcano in 1968, he transitioned from carving wood statues of Pele to making prints, catalyzing his artistic career. His dedication to sharing Hawaiian legends and artwork, free of restrictions, endeared him to the local community despite friction with the broader art world. Passing away on August 14, 2018, Dietrich Varez's legacy lives on through the cherished artworks that continue to captivate hearts.
