bio -
A pioneer in the Western pop art movement, Billy Schenck seamlessly blends photorealistic techniques with a pop art flair, offering a dual perspective that both venerates and satirizes Western imagery. Employing a flattened, reductive style, he juxtaposes colors side-by-side rather than blending or shading, creating a distinctive visual language. SouthwestArt magazine, in its August 2014 issue, characterized his work as a "pendulum between the romantic and the irreverent." Schenck's artistic footprint extends to 48 museum collections, including renowned institutions like the Smithsonian, Denver Art Museum, and the Autry Museum of Western Heritage. His pieces grace private collections belonging to luminaries such as Malcolm Forbes, Laurance Rockefeller, Fritz Scholder's estate, and Sylvester Stallone, while corporate collections feature his works in American Airlines, IBM, Sony, and Saatchi & Saatchi. Having showcased in over 100 solo exhibitions across the U.S. and Europe, Schenck's career milestones include the Denver Art Museum's 2011 Western Horizons, the Utah Museum of Fine Art's 2013 Bierstadt to Warhol: American Indians in the West exhibit, and participation in the Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles. Beyond his artistic endeavors, Schenck, a genuine cowboy and world champion ranch sorter, calls the Double Standard Ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
