Dr. Albert Parry (Russia/America 1901-1992) - Parry was a Russian academic and historian who emigrated to the US in 1921 and authored a book titled "Whistler's Father", and Elizabeth G. Herzog (academic and author researching Whistler's mother). Grouping of 30 letters regarding Whistler family documents and book written titled "Whistler's Father" by Parry - most letters written by Parry to William Patten and some by Herzog. Patten was a famous illustrator, artist, art editor at Harper's Weekly, and had a long term association with Collier's Magazine. Most letters involve review and critique for books and research regarding history of the Whistler family and letters written by Major Whistler. Some letters are Parry's response to unfair critique of his book titled "Whistler's Father". Also a letter to Mrs. William Patten regarding the Whistler documents and a note written in Rhinebeck NY, July 23, 1937 by Albert Parry, Dept. of History, University of Chicago, documenting his receipt of 60 letters received from Mrs. Patten, some of which are addressed by Major George W. Whistler to General Swift pertaining to the Whistler family - letters to be returned following his research. Provenance: From the Thomas & Gail Rockwell collection, LaGrangeville NY. Tom is the son of the renowned American artist, Norman Rockwell and the author or many children's books. His late wife Gail, was an artist-illustrator and the daughter of Arthur E. Sudler and Janet Whitson Sudler, both early 20th century artists - she illustrated several of her husband's children's books.
