Item Description

Eleven Early Chalkware, Papier Mache, Wood and Metal Animal Carnival Prize and Cartoon Figures, 1910-50. The chalkware comprising a squirrel impressed "A.B" on one side of the base and "1912" on the other, a figure of Spark Plug the racehorse from the "Take Barney Google, F'rinstance" cartoon strip by Billy DeBeck, and introduced in 1922, a duck with telescoping neck, a dapper duck marked "JAPAN," a seated bunny with coil ears, and two Donald Duck figures, one signed "8-13-46 Darla Jean Brown From 'Uncle" Ted;' the papier mache comprising two sad-eyed pups, probably figures of Sandy from the comic strip "Little Orphan Annie" by Harold Gray and introduced in 1925, and a duck in a suit; the metal comprising a Snuggle Pup, based on the comic strip created by Frank "Hop" Hopkins and introduced in 1922, impressed "PAT. PUP TOYS CO./ SNUGGLE PUPS/ MFG. BY GREENDUCK CO. CHICAGO."
