Jan Konig graduated from Parsons and started her career as a fashion illustrator for the Simplicity catalog in the early 1960's. As she continued working full time and taking additional classes at FIT and Pratt her extraordinary talents were widely recognized throughout the industry. This afforded her the freedom to contract with multiple agencies which provided fashion illustrations for the likes of Macy's, Lord and Taylor, Gimbals and other noteworthy entities which hold the highest standards. Her fashion illustrations were regularly used used by Macy's and others in the full page, half page ads in the New York Daily News and other broadly circulated publications. She continued throughout the seventies and eighties expanding and evolving her illustrations and focusing more on clothing designs and accessories (as photography eventually replaced the line artist). She made her own clothes and of the many comps she got while illustrating for the large department stores, the 'creative' side took control and as soon as she got home with a garment she got out her bolts of fabric and sat at the machine to sew and embellish and change it, sometimes a little and other times a lot...

Jan loved everything about fashion... everything!

Jan was a true 'creative' and submersed herself in all forms and mediums of the fashion industry, thus she designed and created/fabricated her own jewelry... and obviously collected as well.

These are some of her most cherished pieces of costume jewelry, some hand made by her and others collected with an exceptional eye for taste. Jan was an exceptional singer as well and would accompany her brother (Tex Konig, an established folk singer of the 60's and seventies) as he played guitar. Jan was right there among the most creative members of the folk scene in NYC... 

The environment that Jan drew from (no pun intended) for her fashion illustrations was in fact the very life she was living and sharing with the creative scene in Greenwich Village during the 60's and 70's.
