Wonderfully Carved Antique Japanese Netsuke Of A HOTEI BUDDHA- Artist Signed

This superb example of an antique carved Japanese netsuke centers upon a traveling or 'Hotei' Buddha. It is quite expressive and in excellent condition. The level of detail in the carving is amazing. He is jovial and rotund, with a wooden staff slung over his shoulder. It is propping up a large sack, which he is additionally supporting with his free hand. Also tethered to the staff is a bulbous gourd. The drape of his clothing and additional decoration throughout is the showcase of a very good artist. Signed on his sack [shown in photo #6].
