Item Description

The art of Marilyn Church straddles two very different worlds. She moves easily between her fine art which has been shown extensively in NYC and the Hamptons and her courtroom art, which has also been widely exhibited and shown on every major TV channel and The NY Times.

After years of observing and drawing at high profile trials in the tense atmosphere of the courtroom, she realizes that the whole truth is not easily knowable. Her painting and her works on paper and mixed media are an exploration of those illusive qualities of people that remain hidden, impenetrable and mysterious. Her figures are not specific. They are nearly abstractions. The backgrounds are ambiguous and fluid. The movement of vibrant colors and shapes change direction and pass beyond their boundaries and become totally abstract.

Marilyn’s fine art is informed by her courtroom illustrations and her deep passion and attachment to both is obvious. She moves easily between sketching Bernie Madoff or John Gotti and painting abstract figures. The Library of Congress has collected more than 4,500 pieces of her work and the Smithsonian has a large number as well.
Painting is in good vintage condition . 42"X 32"
