Item Description

This scarce token was manufactured in 1834 by SCOVILL in Waterbury, CT, in 1837. Referred to as a HARD TIMES token, it reflected the sentiment of the times, and an opposition to the presidency of Andrew Jackson. On one side, a JACKASS with the slogan 'Roman Firmness' and 'Veto', On the other, President Jackson is emerging from a strongbox, in full regalia, a sack of money in one hand and a swird in the other. It is displayed in a mirrored shadow box, and has not been removed for closer inspection. GUARANTEED authentic.
