LEONARDO MASSIMO MARIANI (AMERICAN, MID-20TH CENTURY): TWO LARGE NEW YORK CITY SCENES, SILKSCREENS ON PAPER

Item #1087
Lot #86 of 136
Item Description

Two works by Leonardo Massimo Mariani (American, active mid 20th century): "Columbus Circle, New York City" and "Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, New York," serigraphs on textured watercolor paper laid onto heavy pressed board, circa 1950, each signed in the matrix with printed information below each image reading, "By Leonardo Mariani" and "Copyright Frank J. Mariani, W. Caldwell, N.J.," image sizes (including printed borders) 29-1/4" x 21-1/4", the overall sizes approx. 33" x 25-1/4".

Records show that Frank J. Mariani, the publisher, registered this work with the U.S. Copyright Office in 1951. (It appears from genealogical records that Frank was the father of Leonardo, who would have been in his late 20s at the time the work was published.)
Mariani's works are quite rare; while a handful of silkscreen urban scenes are listed in the copyright record, these view are the only actual examples I was able to locate.

Notes: A touch of very mild wear at edges (well away from image); very slight waviness to boards at right edges (which would flatten in a frame); otherwise fine, attractive condition, with bright, vibrant, unfaded colors
