Corning Glass 9BJ1 Battery Locomotive Ceramic Lid Industrial Steampunk Jar

Here is a clear glass jar with white porcelain lid, made to hold a battery so that any leakage will remain contained inside the jar. My understanding is that these were used by Railroads. The jar measure 9-3/4 inches tall and is 6 inches in diameter. The jar has a ground lip with a small (1/2 inch) flake on the outer rim. It is in otherwise excellent vintage condition. This particular jar is marked on the side, Made in USA over 9BJ1, over Corning. The back of the jar holds a Corning logo, and the words, TM Reg US Pat Office. The lid is marked Waterbury Battery Co.
