Item Description

This is a truly stunning piece of exceptional quality and rarity. Known as Pawn Silver, these pieces were made by the Dine (navajo) silversmiths as a hedge against poverty. After crafting the piece the Silversmith would then wear the necklace as his wealth, and in times of trouble, would pawn them to one of the southwest traders. Many times the pieces were purchased back but at times the Dine would be unable to repay the debt and the necklace would turn over to the Tradesman.

The piece is made from authentic American Currency. The large medallions of Morgan Silver Dollars. They include both the original Morgan silver dollar design, as well as the redesign of 1921. Each one of the beads is made from TWO 'Mercury' Dimes punched and welded together.
