Elizabeth Frost was a member of the Naval History and Heritage Command Detachment Boston and worked on the restoration of the USS Constitution. Her specialty was sail making and other restoration skills. The smaller artifacts (wood & nails) were preserved with a note from Elizabeth and the larger piece of wood had it's origin written on it by Liz Frost. The larger section of wood is a 3.5" x 5" piece of wood and is 12" in length. Written on the section of the wood which is painted white on one side is: "A section to _(?)_ removed from the USS constitution during 1992-1999 overhaul. Given to me by Ere-(?) (head carpenter) about the time of my retirement in 2015 from 21 plus years as a ship restorer. Basically, worked on tarps, sculls and b(?) wood at the ship.
(Signed) Elizabeth Frost, retiree after 25 plus years dept. (civilian)(?) of the navy. Preserved with the smaller artifacts is a note: "Pieces of the USS Constitution saved by Martin Frost & given to Joseph W. P. Frost. (Signed) Sail Maker Liz Frost – USS Constitution"
Also included is a photograph of the USS Constitution in 1996 signed by a number of persons including the first female XO of the Constitution, Cmdr. Claire V. Bloom; an invitation return card for the 4th of July 1995 and a color print of the USS Constitution. Also a copy of an article from National Geographic in 1997 about the restoration and A Real Photo Postcard from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston of a Constitution Model.
There is also a photo in the images that shows Liz Frost in 2012 described as follows: "Boatswain's Mate Seaman Recruit Abbie Applegate, assigned to USS Constitution, helps Elizabeth Frost, member of Naval Historical Heritage Command Detachment Boston, sew a patch into Constitution's main top sail during winter maintenance. Constitution is the world's oldest commissioned warship afloat. She defended the sea lanes against threat from 1797 to 1855, much like the mission of today's Navy." (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist Seaman Michael Achterling)". Photo is public domain.
