First American edition of "The Unicorn from the Stars and Other Plays" by William Butler Yeats and Lady Gregory— Irish literature or the Irish literary revival. Published by The Macmillan Company in New York in 1908, this volume features original blue cloth binding with a decorated spine.
While the spine has faded and the corners are rubbed, with one corner chipped, this book remains in good condition and features an early owner's presentation notation.
Lady Augusta Gregory was an Irish dramatist, folklorist, and theater manager. She was born in County Galway, Ireland, in 1852 and died in 1932. Lady Gregory is best known for her work as a co-founder of the Irish Literary Theatre, which later became the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. She was also a close friend and collaborator of William Butler Yeats and helped to revive the Irish literary tradition by promoting the works of Irish playwrights. Lady Gregory's own plays, which often drew on Irish folklore and legends, helped to establish the Celtic literary revival in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She remains an important figure in Irish literary history.
