Item Description

Robert Merry's Museum bound volume XVIII & XVII [18 +17] January - July 1849 / July - January 1850 (note, later issue is bound first); S. T. Allen & Co., New York, 1849. Edited by S. G. Goodrich. Red leather spien and corners over marbled boards, worn, hinges and joints cracked; scattered foxing, a few creases, etc., but overall acceptable. Important American children's magazine, illustrated throughout. Among its many interesting articles and episodic fictions, such as The Black Beast, The Dodo, and Two Letters from the Moon, are the early California Gold Rush stories from the Billy Bump series, In Boston and Off to California. (Years before they were issued as a book.)
