Gray, Thomas. A sermon on the death of His Excellency, William Eustis, late governor of the commonwealth of Massachusetts… Boston: Office of the Christian Register, Francis’s Y. Carlile, Printer, 1825. 26 p., 1 blank at end; removed from bound volume. Signed presentation inscription by author to Rev. D. Lee. Of interest as a Rev. War item because Eustis, William (1753-1825) was
an army surgeon, with a degree from Harvard ( 1772) and a pupil Dr. Joseph Warren, appointed surgeon in the Massachusetts artillery. He served at the battle of Bunker Hill & was soon made a hospital surgeon and went with Washington's army to New York. 1786 be served in a
campaign against the Indians and in Shays'
rebellion. He then withdrew from the army. Subsequently he was successively a member of Congress, secretary of war, minister to Holland, and governor of Massachusetts, and died, while holding this office, in 1825.“” Dictionary of American Bio.
