This unique chair, circa 1750, exhibits many Irish features. The prominent and deeply carved shells of the crest rails and ears on the Chippendale style back are delightful characteristics. The carved tassels and punch work also set the splat apart from ordinary chairs of the period. The cabriole legs rest on square paw feet that are typically Irish. The original of this chair is to be found at Lucan House, Lucan, Co. Dublin, now the Italian Embassy.
