Very Early Antique Montague Casting / Fly ? Fishing Reel NARRAGANSETT 250

Very Early Antique Bait Casting Fishing Reel. It is marked NARRAGANSETT #250; Steel Pivot Bearing. It has a wooden knob handle. I believe it is made by Montague Reels of NY (by looks, set up, and mechanism). It is very old, but spool turns very smoothly. But it is kind of a mystery reel? or maybe is a fly-fishing reel?.... It does not have a "bail" or clicker, it seems to be just direct wind,...., and probably had a leather thumb drag (no longer present, probably rotted away); but the reel is solid and in otherwise very good shape!
