Fabulous Online Auction of the Collection of Original Art by Bill Paxton

We are honored to put up for bidding the partial collection of Maine Artist William "Bill" Paxton (1930 -2009).

Bill Paxton was born, in Lewiston, Maine during the Great Depression. The son of an artist ...view morewith connections to the Hearst newspaper dynasty, he became interested in historical and current events and developed an appreciation for accuracy and attention to detail. While still in grammar school, he began sketching, and drawing cartoons. An avid pilot and outdoors man, an early news clip on his studio wall proclaims "Young Billy Paxton get his wings."

His artistic talents flourished while attending Leavitt Academy in Auburn, ME. Upon graduation, he briefly attended S.W. Missouri State University. HIs love of flying and duty called and Bill joined the U. S. Air Force. While an airman, his sketching and painting prowess was recognized by his superiors. Upon discharge, Bill was hired by the Air Force as a civilian archivist. His duties included combat sketching, promotional art, advertising, and cartooning for various official publications.

After eighteen years with the Air Force, Bill retired and returned to his beloved Maine and set about to capture the essence of his home state with bush and pallet. As a full time artist he became well known for his work with watercolors and acrylics. A versatile professional, his subjects include railroads, air craft, lighthouses, coastal scenes, land and air combat and sporting events.

Bill Paxton, even after his passing, continues to be one of Maine's best known and largest selling artists.
