Patriotic banjo clock with reverse paintings on upper and lower panels to commemorate a sea battle during the War of 1812, signed Waterbury Clock Co., probably centennial late 19th century. The upper panel with scrolls above a spread wing eagle standing atop an American shield - some paint losses, mostly along border; and the lower door panel having an arched support over a spread wing eagle standing atop shield flanked by 2 sailing war ships, one bearing an American flag, - the base of the panel decorated with an oval marked "HULL" flanked by leaves - naval officer Isaac Hull, the American naval commodore noted for the victory of his ship the Constitution over the British frigate Guerriere during the War of 1812. The porcelain clock face with slight hairline and spider crack near crest - the reverse paintings on both panels with losses to paint and some loose patches of paint - due to the loose paint, it cannot be guaranteed as shown if shipped - the clock, missing pendulum, otherwise appears complete including weight and key, but is in non-working condition. The carved wooden frame in original gilded gesso is in very good original condition. The clock measures 43"L x 10 1/4"W x 4 1/4"D.
