About the Artist: Pepe Diniz, birth 1945 Tangier, Morocco. Pepe Diniz (Tangier, May 1945) is an American photographer of Portuguese origin. Son of a Romanian mother and an Indo-Portuguese father, he attended primary education in Palma de Mallorca and Mozambique and secondary education in Mozambique and Johannesburg, South Africa. He never lived continuously in Portugal, but his language is Portuguese. He attended the Institut de Photographie de Genève, Switzerland (1969-1972). He was a photographer for the French Cinematheque between 1972 and 1974. In 1975 he founded the Bleecker Gallery, New York. Since then he has been a freelance photographer in New York. He is internationally recognized for his images of cities and, above all, for the portraits of plastic artists, writers, singers, photographers and other creators who have crossed paths with him at some point. Among many others, he photographed Man Ray, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Salvador Dali, John Cage, Jorge Luís Borges, Robert Frank, Sarah Afonso, Amália Rodrigues, Carlos Botelho, Abel Manta, António Duarte. He is represented in numerous collections, public and private, in Portugal and abroad, namely: José de Azeredo Perdigão Modern Art Centre, Lisbon; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Brooklyn Museum, New York; Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris; Berardo Collection Museum, Lisbon; Luso-American Foundation, Lisbon; PLMJ Foundation, Lisbon; Photographic Training Centre, Maputo; etc.
