About the artist: Suzanne Meunier-Point, born Suzanne Marie Elia Meunier-Pouthot on July 5, 1888 in Suresnes and died on May 5, 1979 in Paris, is a French painter, designer and engraver, known for her illustrations in the pin-up genre. Along with Vala Moro, the mysterious Austrian artist of the 1930s and the Danish Gerda Wegener, Suzanne Meunier is one of the only female painters to have produced images of "scantily clad young ladies", in an environment largely dominated by male artists.
Suzanne Marie Elia Meunier-Pouthot was born on July 5, 1888 in Suresnes1, daughter of a manufacturer Albert Meunier-Pouthot and Berthe Point. After attending the Académie Julian in Paris, Suzanne Meunier-Point joined the Union of Women Painters and Sculptors, which exhibited her in 1909. Then she entered the Barcelona School of Fine Arts in 1911, and published her first drawings in several issues of the Catalan review Hojas Selectas. Her first compositions under the name of "Suzanne Meunier" appeared in France from 1914 in the weekly Pages folles, then from 1917 in Le Sourire depicting the "little women of war", godmothers of soldiers, then from 1918 in La Vie Parisienne and Fantasio, in a “boudoir” style, then, from 1922 in Eros, “monthly publication of physical art” published by the Bookstore of the print of Antonin Reschal (in fact a reissue of 1914). In 1923, The Strand Magazine devoted pages to him in its Christmas issue. In 1916, she exhibited in Paris, Joubert gallery (still at Reschal) and at Richebourg, place de la Madeleine. In the 1930s, she worked with Sydney Z. Lucas, owner in New York of the Camilla Lucas Gallery and the Paris Etching Society. His art is also expressed through numerous lithographs and postcards.
