About the artist: Suzy Aalund, aka: Susan "Suzy" Beatrice (Quick) Aalund, 83, of New London, CT, died in 2016. She was born on Long Island in Amityville, N.Y. She studied extensively through independent studies and went on to achieve notable national recognition for her work specializing in paintings of a nautical nature, however at times she also painted the back roads of America. She always lived by the water and was inspired by the northeast coastline, where she painted many scenes of Cape Cod and Long Island. Her painting career brought her to Mystic, where she settled with her family. She became widely collected and won numerous awards including first prize at the National Miniature Show in 1973. Ms. Aalund participated in several juried exhibitions and had several solo shows (some listed below) and was a charter member of the American Society of Marine Artists. Some of her paintings were published by the New York Graphic Society, which makes sense, people want graphic reproductions that they can relate too. In that regard, her most known works of beaches, birds and seagrass appealed to gallery goers. Who doesn't love a day at the beach?
