Item Description

Buescher Silver Clarinet

About the Instrument: "During the first half of the 20th Century the clarinet became one of the most important musical instruments. Jazz bands tuned to the clarinet. Saxophone didn't become popular as a respectable professional instrument until Conn redesigned them in the late 1920s. Every kid wanted a clarinet at one time it seems because maybe a million cheap student clarinets were made when the cheapest material was metal. The countless student clarinets leave many people to believe that all metal clarinets are junk... But there were some pro models. Of course military marching bands didn't use cheap student models. Benny Goodman played a silver clarinet in his early years, and Lester Young was known to play a metal clarinet. Finding a good pro model is the question. Search out "The Silver Clarinet Site" for a detailed story, and you can also see quality clarinets like this one on that site to compare. Some of the best silver clarinets were made by Buescher. "
