It was founded in 1951 by eight distinguished artists: John Hilton, Merritt Boyer, Evelyn Hutchinson, Michael Malloy, Kirk Martin, Vera Martin, Edna Onderdonk, and Fritiof Perssons, and is situated within walking distance of the 29 Palms Inn, the Old Schoolhouse Museum, and a short hike away from the JTNP Oasis Visitor Center. About the artist from askart.com: "Born in Nebraska on Feb. 13, 1889. By 1940 Onderdonk had moved to southern California and settled in 29 Palms where she was a pupil of Ralph Holmes. A spinster, she died in San Bernardino, CA on Jan. 8, 1972. Member: 29 Palms Art Guild (cofounder, 1951)."
