Turquoise, red and purple. Approx. 10' long with fringe, and 23"W.
This unique weaving is purple and turquoise with red highlights and fringe This perfect example of Zapotek hand weaving is ideal as a wall hanging or can be used also as a floor runner. Created by a weaver on a loom in Oaxaca, Mexico, this weaving takes months to create and reflects the love of an age-old tradition. In the Golden Age of the Zapotec Empire, the people of Teotitlán del Valle were already well-known for their weaving. In 1521, the Spanish arrived and changed the face of Zapotec weaving forever as they brought in sheep and new looms. Weaving materials were changed from cotton to wool and the larger looms required greater strength, so men took over this traditional female role.
