This compendium of all the world's art from ancient days through its mid-1970's publication date is a treasure! Considering the thousands of years it covers, missing the last two or three decades in more recent editions is insignificant. The book was rated "Very Good" and I would even call it "Excellent." The text is masterful, like taking a college course in Art History, but brought to life by the expertise of the original author, HW Janson. The illustrations, while many are in Black n' White, are very clear and large; the color illustrations make you feel as if you are in the museum. All in all, a wonderful resource to read and study, or just peruse from chapter to chapter for pure pleasure. If you cannot visit the Metropolitan in NYC or Europe, this is next best thing!
