About the artist:
Samuel “Billy” Wilder (1906-2002) was an award winning Austrian American filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, artist and journalist who painted many pieces, as well as a series of oil on canvas eerie tall ships. He is known for being the first person to win an Academy Award as Producer, Director and Screenwriter for his 1960 film “The Apartment” with Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine and Fred MacMurray. He also produced “The Seven Year Itch” and “Some Like It Hot” with Marilyn Monroe. He is known to have had a very powerful influence on early experimental, as well as traditional film in America. From almost upon his immigration to the US in the in the mid 1930s, Wilder dominated Hollywood’s Golden Age until the early 1960s. With over 50 films & 6 Academy Awards to his name, B. Wilder is one of Hollywood’s all time greats! As well as a talented painter!
